whenever a person is born he brings his karmic debt from past life in this life. Which he has to fullfil(not always a bad thing). for knowing what your karmic debt is u have to see the 3 malefic houses 6,8,12. And look which sign is placed in that house and look where is the planet lord sitting of these houses that will be your karmic debt to someone or something.
For eg:- karka lagna kundli 6th house is Sagittarius,

8th house is Aquarius
12th house is Gemini 

You will have some kind of karmic backlog related to this signs .
Eg for lord ram karka lagna , 6th house was Sagittarius which indicates karmic debt to a Brahman or guru rahu sitting in 6th house means he will fulfill his debt by either fighting with Brahmans or serving the Brahmans(he did both)
